Full review of the 2022 Toyota Tundra: What we know so far

The full-size pickup truck category is dominated by domestic automakers, but the 2022 Toyota Tundra targets a different demographic, namely Toyota fans. The leaf-spring rear suspension is standard on most half-ton pickups. If the smooth-riding Ram 1500 is any indicator, the Tundra's coil springs in the rear will improve the truck's ride and handling. It's still capable of pulling a 12,000-pound trailer and includes a number of driver assistance features as standard. The Tundra lacks a V-8 engine option, which sets it apart from its domestic competition. Gasp! One engine option is a twin-turbo V-6 with a hybrid system generating 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. This is the only option. The 2022 Tundra has a lot going for it, including a far nicer interior than its predecessor and an infotainment system with a 14.0-inch touchscreen.

In 2022, what will be different?

Following a generation in which the Tundra remained essentially unchanged since its introduction in 2007, Toyota has given the truck a much-needed makeover. It struggled to compete with domestic half-ton rivals such as the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 despite being redesigned for the 2014 model year. Despite this, the new Tundra should be more competitive and appealing when it hits dealership lots this winter, despite the fact that it still isn't anticipated to sell more than any of the competition.

Performance of the Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain

A V-8 engine will not be offered on any other full-size pickup truck until the year 2022 on the Tundra. Only a twin-turbo V-6 and a 10-speed automatic are available with it. There are two versions of this engine, each with a different level of power. The base model has a powertrain with 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. It has an electric motor built in into the transmission, allowing for zero-emission driving down low speeds.

Together, they produce 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. The rear suspension has also been upgraded from its leaf-spring predecessor. To help with ride and handling, Toyota has upgraded the Tundra's rear suspension to use a more sophisticated coil-spring design. Toyota's renowned TRD Off-Road and TRD Sport packages are still available. Skid plates and special wheels are among the features of the former. For the latter, the suspension has been reduced, and the wheels are 20 inches in diameter. A raised suspension, custom dampers, and a special set of black 18-inch rims wrapped in all-terrain tyres are available on the TRD Pro trim level for those looking for the most off-road capability.

Capacity for Towing and Payload

Toyota's Tundra full-size pickup vehicle can pull up to 12,000 pounds, which is less than some of its rivals. As an example, the F-150 can tow 14,000 pounds. The Tundra's payload capacity is rated at an impressive 1940 pounds. Several other half-ton pickups, such as the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, can tow up to 4000 pounds more than the Ford.

ambiance, convenience, and transportability

The interior of the Tundra is dominated by a large dashboard studded with air vents and a big, smooth middle portion connecting the doors. The centre console, dash, and doors all appear to be made of higher-quality materials than those used in prior models. The quality will, of course, improve as you move through the trim levels, with the 1794 Edition featuring beautiful wood accents as the pinnacle. A large middle bin and plenty of cubby storage space appear to be standard across the board on all versions. A small driver-information display and a pair of analogue gauges are standard on the instrument panel, but a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is available on higher trim levels. Two body variants and three cargo bed lengths are offered on the Tundra. Tundra. The Double Cab (also known as the Extended Cab) comes in two bed lengths: 6.5 feet and 8.1 feet. The bed length for the crew cab (also known as CrewMax) is either 5.5 feet or 6.5 feet.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Almost all full-size pickup trucks, with the exception of the Nissan Titan, are now equipped with 12-inch or larger touchscreens. To compete with other trucks, the Tundra has an optional horizontally mounted 14.0-inch touchscreen display that's larger than the regular 8.0-inch touchscreen. It has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a convenient volume knob. There's also a Wi-Fi hotspot with a monthly membership option.

Features for Safety and Assist for the Driver

Automatic high lights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more are all standard equipment on every Tundra. If you're interested in learning more about the Tundra's crash test results, you can do so by visiting the NHTSA and IIHS websites. The following elements are critical to your safety:
  • Automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning are both standard equipment.
  • warnings when you're drifting from the lanes and lane-keeping assistance as standard
  • Adaptive cruise control is included as standard equipment, model number .

The bed of a Tundra pickup truck measures how long it is.

For the Tundra, you have a choice of three lengths: 5, 6, or 8. The cabin plays a significant role in determining which of these options you should use. The longer beds are an option in a double cabin, however the only option in a CrewMax cabin is the smaller bed.

There's no need to go with an 8-foot bed over a 6-and-a-half-foot bed unless you often carry a really tall load. With the longest bed, the truck will be nearly 21 feet long, which will make it more difficult to manoeuvre.

Since each Tundra bed is a uniform width, getting to your belongings can be a challenge because the side walls are so high. The tailgate also has a high loading height.

What type of Tundra is the greatest for towing and hauling around heavy objects?

To compare it to other full-size pickups, the Tundra's towing capacity is below average. The most cost-effective model is the entry-level model. The Tundra's maximum towing and payload capacities are 10,200 pounds and 1,730 pounds, respectively, for the SR's cabin, which has a 6-foot bed and rear-wheel drive.
